Keep Your Heart Wrapped in the One

ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਰੋਸੁ ॥
kabeer nirgun naam na ros.
Kabir: O worthless mortal, do not lose the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਇਸੁ ਪਰਚਾਇ ਪਰਚਿ ਰਹੁ ਏਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
is parchaa-ay parach rahu ays. ||4||9||
Keep this mind of yours involved in this involvement. ||4||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

So gently, to my own heart: don't let go of the Name. Keep your mind lovingly wrapped up in the One, and let that be what you're absorbed in.

Keep your heart lovingly wrapped up in the One — that single absorption is the whole treasure.
The deeper layer

Kabir gently reminds his own heart to hold on to the Name, and to stay wrapped up in the One.

The last verse is spoken to himself. Kabeer nirgun — Kabir calls himself nirgun, one with no good qualities of his own. It is a humble way of talking to his own heart. Naam na ros — do not lose the Name. The Naam, the Name, means remembering the One.

Is parchaa-ay parach rahu ays — keep this mind busy with this. The mind is always busy with something. Think of how a phone game can fill every spare minute. Kabir invites that same busy mind to be busy with the One instead.

A Question to Sit With

Your mind is always busy with something; what would it be like to keep it gently wrapped around something you love?
