Seen Clearly, the Struggle Dissolves Like a Dream

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

Says Kabir, through contemplation, I have obtained this one understanding.

In plain words

After all his pondering, Kabir arrives at one clear understanding: once you truly see it, there is no well and no water-carriers at all. The whole anxious struggle was a kind of dream. What remains is simple: rest in the One.

Seen clearly, the anxious struggle dissolves like a dream — what remains is simply resting in the One.
The deeper layer

When Kabir sees clearly, the whole struggle of the riddle simply disappears, like waking from a dream.

Kaho kabeer ik budh beechaaree — says Kabir, after thinking it through, I have found one understanding. Ik budh means one clear insight.

Here is the insight: naa oh koo-ataa naa panihaaree — there is no well, and no water-carrier. When the mind rests in the One, the whole busy scene disappears. The senses tugging at the well were never as solid as they seemed.

Think of a scary dream about being chased. While you are in it, you run and run. Then you wake up, and there was nothing chasing you at all.

The riddle keeps its wonder, and its teaching becomes easy to hold. Peace makes the false problem melt away.

A Question to Sit With

Has a problem that felt huge ever suddenly shrunk once you saw it in a completely new way?
