Even the Busiest Day Has Room for One Breath

ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਮ ॥
raat je soveh din karahi kaam.
They sleep by night and work during the day,
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਲੇਹਿ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥
ik khin layhi na har ko naam. ||2||
but they do not chant the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some people sleep all night and work all day, and never once, even for a single breath, turn toward the One who gives them everything. There is room in even the busiest day for one quiet remembering.

Even the busiest day has room for one breath turned toward the One.
The deeper layer

Even the busiest day has room for one moment of remembering.

Raat je soveh din karahi kaam — they sleep at night and work all day. Ik khin layhi na har ko naam — not for one moment do they take the Name of the One. A khin is an instant, a blink.

Kabir notices a life so packed with routine that it never pauses for the Name. He is not scolding. He is inviting. Even one breath of remembering changes the whole feel of a day.

Naam simran, remembering the Name, is a door you can open anytime. It is not a chore you missed. Think of stopping on the way to school to look up at the sky for one second. The day feels different after.

A Question to Sit With

Where in your ordinary day could you fit one small moment of remembering what matters most?
