Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Look up at all those stars scattered across the night sky.

Who is the artist who painted every single one of them?

Every star in the sky was painted by the same hand.
The deeper layer

Kabir looks up at the night sky and asks who painted it.

He starts with wonder, not with a lesson. He calls the stars a painting, and a painting means there is a painter. Kin o-ay cheetay cheetanhaaray — who is the painter who painted them?

Think of finding a beautiful drawing on the kitchen table. Your first question is, "Who made this?" Kabir wants you to feel that same awe under the stars. Then he lets the awe become a question about the One behind everything.

A Question to Sit With

When you look up at the stars, what question do they make you want to ask?
