Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 326
Verse 4 of 4

What Force Can't Cut, Remembrance Loosens

ਹਮ ਦੇਖਤ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥
ham daykhat jin sabh jag looti-aa.
Before my very eyes, she has plundered the entire world.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੩॥੩੦॥
kaho kabeer mai raam kahi chhooti-aa. ||3||30||
Says Kabir, chanting the Lord's Name, I have escaped her. ||3||30||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Right in front of me, I watched this clinging quietly rob everyone of their peace.

Says Kabir: by keeping the Beloved's Name in my heart, I slipped free of it.

What force cannot cut, remembrance quietly loosens.
The deeper layer

Here is the release. What cutting could not do, remembrance did. Holding the Name — keeping the One present in the mind — is what loosens the grip of clinging. Not force, but a fuller love that leaves less room for the smaller ones.

A Question to Sit With

When your mind is full of something you love, do the small worries lose their grip?
