ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 3.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:
gur sayvaa jug chaaray ho-ee.
The Guru's service has been performed throughout the four ages.
pooraa jan kaar kamaavai ko-ee.
Very few are those perfect ones who do this good deed.
akhut naam Dhan har tot na ho-ee.
The wealth of the Lord's Name is inexhaustible; it shall never be exhausted.
aithai sadaa sukh dar sobhaa ho-ee. ||1||
In this world, it brings a constant peace, and at the Lord's Gate, it brings honor. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Serving the teacher has gone on through every age, but only a few complete ones truly do it. The wealth of the Name never runs out. It brings steady peace here, and honor at the One's door.
The Name is wealth that never runs out -- peace now, honor later.
Service of the Guru is timeless but rare. The Name is inexhaustible wealth (cf. the Giver who never empties) -- yielding peace here and honor hereafter. A double dividend: this world and the next.
A Question to Sit With
What is a "wealth" that grows rather than shrinks the more you use it?
