Those We Run To Are as Tangled as We Are

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਅੰਧਾ ॥

Without the Lord, the blind ones are deluded by doubt.

And those, to whom I go to find release - they themselves are bound by all sorts of chains. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Without the One, it is easy to get lost wandering in confusion.

And the people I run to for a way out? They are often just as tangled up as I am.

The ones we run to for answers are often as tangled as we are — real freedom comes from within.
The deeper layer

This one says that the people we run to for answers can be just as tangled as we are.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Har bin bharam bhulaanay andhaa — without the One, people wander, lost in bharam, doubt and confusion, as if they cannot see.

Kabir admits something very human. Jaa peh jaa-o aap chhutkaavan tay baadhay baho fandhaa — the ones I go to for freedom are tied up in many knots themselves. He is not making fun of teachers. He is saying that someone caught in a knot cannot untie yours.

Think of two kids tangled in the same jump rope, each asking the other to get them out. The shabad turns from this toward the inner Guide, who truly loosens the tangle.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel stuck, do you look for answers only outside yourself, or also quietly within?
