Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I am nothing on my own, and nothing here is really mine.
This body, whatever I have, every good thing I taste — it all belongs to You, O One who holds the universe.
The Rahao, and one of the most freeing sentences in all of Gurbani: mai naahee kachh aahi na moraa — "I am nothing, and nothing is mine." This is not self-put-down; it is the great relief of setting down the heavy load of haumai, the illusion of being a separate, self-made owner of things. When you truly feel that everything is a gift passing through your hands, the grasping stops and gratitude begins. "I am nothing" here means empty-handed and open — the doorway grace walks through.
What might it feel like to treat everything you have as a gift, just passing through your hands?
