Before you were born, you waited safe and close, quietly growing.
And then you came safely through into the world. You were held even before your first day here.
The literal uses vivid, sometimes frightening imagery of the womb (urad tap, the "fire of the belly"). Per our wellbeing rules, that imagery stays in the literal layer but is set aside in the child-facing retelling; what that retelling keeps is the tender, true core — that you were held and kept safe before you were even born. Kabir's original point is that a soul was close to the One even then; for a child, the reassuring truth is that care surrounded you before you could ask for it. (See the project's "Held Before You Could Ask" theme.)
How does it feel to know you were cared for before you could even ask?
