The people around me can be rough. Worry follows me day and night.
My own steps have wandered crooked. I feel like someone the world thinks little of.
Ravidas brings his most honest feelings straight to the One he loves.
This song is by Bhagat Ravidas. A bhagat is a devotee, a lover of the One, whose songs the Gurus placed in the Guru Granth Sahib. Ravidas worked with leather. The caste system of his day ranked people by birth, and it placed families like his near the bottom. The world tried to make him feel worthless.
Here he speaks honestly about that. His words are blunt. Rough company. Crooked actions. Low birth. Worry day and night.
This is not hating himself. It is honesty carried straight to the Beloved. Think of a child who runs to a parent and blurts out everything that went wrong today. Underneath, it is the raw human ache: "I feel small, and I have gone off course." He lays it down before the One, who never ranks anyone by birth. The rest of the song lifts from this ache into trust.
Where do you take your worries when they follow you day and night?
