they plow and work the fields, so that their sons and daughters may eat.

In just the same way, the Lord's humble servants chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and in the end, the Lord shall save them. ||1||

In plain words

Farmers love working their land, plowing and laboring so their children can eat. In just that way, the One's servants keep its name alive -- and in the end, the One saves them.

Like a farmer working for the harvest, the devotee's steady remembrance bears fruit in the end.
The deeper layer

A labor-simile: the farmer's devoted, future-directed work for the children's sake mirrors the devotee's steady chanting that bears fruit in the end (cf. the farming image elsewhere). Spiritual practice is honest, patient labor with a harvest.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing are you patiently "working the field" for right now?
