In just the same way, the True Guru loves His Sikhs. The Lord cherishes His GurSikhs, and keeps them clasped to His Heart. ||2||

In plain words

The white flamingo flies in wide circles across the sky, but she keeps her young ones in her mind; though she has left them behind, she remembers them constantly in her heart. In just the same way, the true teacher loves the students and holds them close to its heart.

Even when the teacher seems far, the student is held constantly in its heart.
The deeper layer

This one says the Guru's love reaches you even when you feel far away.

The picture is a white flamingo. She flies in wide circles high across the sky. Her chicks are left behind on the ground. But she keeps them in her heart the whole time. There was an old folk belief that she fed her young from far away, just by remembering them.

ti-o satgur sikh pareet har har kee — in the same way, the True Guru loves the Sikhs. It is like a parent on a work trip who still thinks of you at every meal. The distance is real, but the love is not smaller.

So the Guru's love is present even when a student feels distant. Love is bigger than miles.

A Question to Sit With

Can someone hold you in their heart even when they are far away? Who holds you like that?
