No amount of scrambling sets me truly free. The more clever tricks I pile up, the heavier my load gets.
But when I serve with a clean, honest heart — helping, giving, showing up for others — I am welcomed with honor in the court of the One, like a guest met with a warm smile.
This one says cleverness makes life heavier, and a clean, giving heart makes it lighter.
The verse sets two paths side by side. The first is anik jatan, all sorts of efforts, and bahut si-aanap, lots of cleverness. They do not set you free. They only pile on more weight. Picture stuffing a backpack with one more trick and one more plan, until you can hardly stand up.
The second path is har kee sayvaa nirmal hayt — serving the One with a pure heart. Sayvaa means service. For a child, it is best kept concrete: helping, giving, showing up for someone. A heart like that is welcomed sobhaa sayt, with honor, in the court of the One.
Here is the surprise. Struggling to free yourself the clever way loads you down. Serving with a clean heart is what lifts you up.
When has trying too hard to fix something made it heavier instead of lighter?
