Stay Awake Inside Your House and Keep It Whole

ਇਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
is garih meh ko-ee jaagat rahai.
Those who remain awake in this house are very rare;
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਵਸਤੁ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saabat vasat oh apnee lahai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by doing so, they receive the whole thing. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Rare is the one who stays truly awake inside their own house — alert, present, aware.

And that person gets to keep the one thing that really matters, whole and unspoiled.

Stay awake inside your own house, and the one thing that matters stays whole.
The deeper layer

This one says: stay awake inside your own house, and your treasure stays whole.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Is garih meh ko-ee jaagat rahai — rare is the one who stays awake in this house. The house is you: your body and your mind. Saabat vasat oh apnee lahai — that person keeps their whole treasure. Saabat means whole, unbroken.

Staying awake here means keeping watch over your own inner home. Think of the person in a family who always remembers to lock the door at night. The treasure inside stays safe. This picture of the house and its treasure carries the whole shabad.

A Question to Sit With

What's the "one whole thing" inside you that's worth staying awake to protect?
