These inner pulls can't be kept out by your parents, or your friends, or your brothers and sisters — much as they love you.
No amount of money or cleverness holds them off either. But in the company of good people, they finally come under your control.
This one says the people who love us cannot keep these inner pulls away, but good company can steady us.
Un tay raakhai baap na maa-ee — neither father nor mother can protect us from them. Un tay raakhai meet na bhaa-ee — nor can friends or brothers. Darab si-aanap naa o-ay rahtay — money and cleverness cannot hold them back either. Only saaDhsang, the company of good people, brings these dusat, troublemakers, under control.
The troublemakers here are the inner pulls, not people. The point is that this inner drift cannot be fixed from outside, by love or money or being smart. It is changed by the company that steadies you from within. Think of learning to swim. Your family can cheer from the side, but you learn by getting into the water with a good coach.
What's a struggle that no one else can solve for you, but the right friends could help you master?
