The Name Can Be a Home You Live In

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
sant sabhaa ka-o sadaa jaikaar.
I salute and applaud the Society of the Saints.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
har har naam jan paraan aDhaar.
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the Support of the breath of life of His servant.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kaho naanak mayree sunee ardaas.
Says Nanak, the Lord has heard my prayer;
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੦॥
sant parsaad mo ka-o naam nivaas. ||4||21||90||
by the Grace of the Saints, I dwell in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||21||90||

In plain words

I cheer and celebrate the gathering of good, true-hearted people — always. The Name of the One is the very breath of those who serve.

And here's my prayer, heard at last: by the kindness of good company, I've come to make my home in the Name.

The Name can become a home you live in, not just a place you visit.
The deeper layer

The Name can be a home you live in, and good company helps you find the way there.

Sant sabhaa ka-o sadaa jaikaar — always cheer for the sant sabhaa, the gathering of good, true-hearted people. Har har naam jan paraan adhaar — the Name is the support of the breath of those who serve. Kaho naanak mayree sunee ardaas — says Nanak, my ardaas, my prayer, has been heard.

Sant parsaad mo ka-o naam nivaas — by the kindness of good company, I live in the Name. Nivaas means home, a place you live.

That is a lovely ending. It is not just visiting the Name. It is living there. Think of the difference between visiting a friend's house and being at home in your own. And you get there through the kindness of others, which is grace.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to "live inside" something good, rather than just visiting it now and then?
