The soul of His humble servant dwells in the fourth state. ||4||1||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Three times they tried to harm me, and three hard-set hearts still would not soften.
But this is my One — my shelter through all of it. When your heart rests in that highest, calm place, nothing outside can reach in and shake it.
Rooted in the deepest calm, a heart cannot be shaken by anything outside it.
Cha-uthay pad — the 'fourth state,' the deep, unshakeable calm beyond waking, dreaming, and sleep. Even after three attempts and hearts that would not bend, Kabir's peace holds, because it is rooted in that fourth ground. The story ends not in bitterness toward his persecutors but in gratitude for the shelter that never failed.
A Question to Sit With
What is the calmest, steadiest place inside you that hard days can't quite reach?
