ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Without a mother or father there is no child;
ਬਿੰਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥
bimb binaa kaisay kapray Dho-ee.
just so, without water, how can the clothes be washed?
ਘੋਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ ॥
ghor binaa kaisay asvaar.
Without a horse, how can there be a rider?
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥੩॥
saaDhoo bin naahee darvaar. ||3||
Without the Holy Saint, one cannot reach the Court of the Lord. ||3||

No parents, no child. No water, no way to wash clean. No horse, no rider.
And without the company of the wise, the heart never quite finds its way home to the One.
Good company is as basic to the soul as water is to getting clean.
