Verse 3 of 5

The Real Dancer Dances With The Mind

ਨਾਚਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਚੈ ॥
naachan so-ay jo man si-o naachai.
He alone is a dancer, who dances with his mind.
ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਤੀਐ ਪਰਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ॥
jhooth na patee-ai parchai saachai.
The Lord is not satisfied with falsehood; He is pleased only with Truth.
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਆਗੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾਲ ॥
is man aagay poorai taal.
So play the beat of the drum in the mind.
ਇਸੁ ਨਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਰਖਵਾਲ ॥੨॥
is naachan kay man rakhvaal. ||2||
The Lord is the Protector of the dancer with such a mind. ||2||

In plain words

The real dancer isn't just moving feet — it's someone whose very mind dances in step with the One.

No pretending will do; only what's real and true. Keep that inner rhythm, and you're watched over and kept safe.

The truest dance is the mind moving in step with the One — and it can't be faked.
The deeper layer

Kabir says the truest dance happens inside, when the mind moves in step with the One.

Naachan so-ay jo man si-o naachai — the real dancer is the one who dances with the mind. Kabir takes a performer's art and turns it inward. Jhooth na patee-ai parchai saachai — falseness does not please the One; only truth does. Jhooth means false, and saachai means true.

Is man aagay poorai taal — keep the beat in front of the mind. Taal is the rhythm of the drum. Think of a dancer who has practiced so much that the music lives inside them. You can't fake that kind of dance. Keep that inner beat, and the One keeps you safe.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when your inside and outside are 'dancing to the same beat' — honest and matched?
