Verse 5 of 5

Everywhere I Look, the One

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਰਾਮਾ ॥
jah jah daykh-a-u tah tah raamaa.
In the same way, wherever Naam Dayv looks, he sees the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
har kay charan nit Dhi-aavai naamaa. ||4||2||
Naam Dayv meditates continuously on the Feet of the Lord. ||4||2||

In plain words

And then something changes: wherever I turn my eyes, I see the One.

Every direction, every face, every place — the One is already there, and my heart rests at those feet.

When the One becomes your single focus, you begin to see the One everywhere.
The deeper layer

Namdev ends by saying that when the One becomes your one focus, you start to see the One everywhere.

Jah jah daykh-a-u tah tah raamaa — wherever I look, there is the One. The single-minded focus suddenly opens wide. Before, the mind fixed on one thing out of many. Now it sees the One in everything the eye lands on. The same way of seeing that once narrowed the world now makes it wide.

Har kay charan nit Dhi-aavai naamaa — Namdev keeps the One's feet in mind always. Keeping someone's feet in mind means staying humble and close. Think of putting on glasses for the first time. Everything was there before, but now it all comes into focus.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever looked at the world and felt that everything was quietly connected?
