May I obtain the gift of always seeing the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; meeting with You, Nanak is the slave of Your slaves. ||4||2||

In plain words

Be gentle with me, O One who eases the pain of everyone who feels small — every living being belongs to You.

Let me always keep You in sight; even to walk beside those who love You would be gift enough.

Everyone who feels small is held by the One's mercy — no one is left out.
The deeper layer

The song ends with a tender request for mercy.

Hohu kirpaal deen dukh bhanjan — be kind, You who break the pain of the deen, the humble and the small. Sabh tumray jee-a jantaa-ilay — every living being is Yours. So no one is outside the One's mercy.

Then Guru Arjan asks for one gift: sadaa daras paykhaa — always to see You. Daras means a true sight of the One. He calls himself daas dasaa-ilay, the servant of Your servants. That is not putting himself down. It is an open-handed wish just to be near. Think of a little kid who is happy to carry the bags for the grown-ups, just to be part of the family trip.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel small, what helps you remember you still matter?
