The One, my very breath, lives in my mind and body.
Be kind, and unite me with the company of the good, O perfect, all-knowing One.
This part says that even when the One feels close as your breath, you still need good company.
Man tan bas rahay mayray paraan — the One, my very breath of life, lives in my mind and body. The raag keeps coming back to this closeness. And yet the prayer here is still saaDhoo sang bhaytay, unite me with the company of the good.
That is worth noticing. The inner closeness and the outer company are not rivals. The Sangat (company of the good) is where that inner closeness is fed and kept alive. Think of a campfire. One log can burn, but logs placed together keep the fire going.
You never grow out of needing good people once you find the One within. The two grow together. Guru Arjan, a Guru himself, shows this humility. He still asks to be placed among the good.
Even if you feel close to something good on your own, why might you still need other people around you who share it?
