In plain words

My mind is fooled, tangled up in illusion.

Whatever I do while caught in greed only ties me down tighter.

Here's a tricky truth: things you do out of greed, even trying to get free, just tie the knot tighter — because it's still greed doing them. You can't untangle a net by grabbing at it harder.
The deeper layer

Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Guru, brings his signature honesty to Jaitsree. He does not describe the enlightened state from above; he describes the struggle from inside it, as one of us. "My mind is deluded, entangled in Maya" — and the sharp observation that follows: whatever he does while driven by greed "only serves to bind me down." This is a crucial insight. Action taken from greed, even action meant to free you, just tightens the knot, because it is still greed acting. You cannot untangle a net by pulling harder in the same grasping way. The honesty of naming this — I am tangled, and my struggling makes it worse — is itself the first loosening.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever tried to fix a problem in a way that only made it worse? What might a different approach be?
