The Lord seems so very sweet to my heart, mind and body; upon my face, upon my forehead, my good destiny is inscribed. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Through love, I have found the Name of my One, the One of the whole universe.

The One tastes so sweet to my heart, mind and body; good fortune is written on my forehead.

The finding is complete and *sweet* — the One tasted in heart, mind, and body. And it was found not through cleverness but through love. The sweetness feels not earned but given, as if written for you all along.
The deeper layer

This part says the finding is complete, and it is sweet.

Har hirdai man tan meethaa laagaa — the One tastes so sweet to my heart, mind and body. This is Har Ras, the sweet taste of the One, which has flavored the whole raag.

Notice how the Name was found. Har rangee har naam parabh paa-i-aa — through love, I found the Name. Not by being clever, or by hard work, but by love. The longing from the earlier line has grown into finding.

Mukh mastak bhaag changayraa — good fortune is written on my forehead. That is the language of grace, a free gift. The sweetness doesn't feel earned. It feels given, as if it had been written for him all along. Think of opening a present and finding exactly the thing you'd been wishing for. Guru Ram Das's Todee opens the way his Jaitsree so often closed: in the sweetness of the One, found through love.

A Question to Sit With

Have you found something wonderful not by being clever but simply by loving it? What did that sweetness feel like?
