Servant Nanak has received the Name from the teacher. Such is the good fortune written on his forehead.
This part names the gift that makes all the difference: a clear, wise mind.
Bibayk buDh satgur tay paa-ee — from the true Guru I received bibayk buDh. That means a mind that can tell things apart. It can tell the sweet from the bitter, the lasting from the passing. It can tell the road that leads home from the road that wanders. Think of a friend who can always tell when an online "deal" is really a trick.
This is what the teacher gives. And it is the very skill the whole of Jaitsree has been growing. The skill to see clearly which friend lasts, which wealth is real, which love doesn't break.
Jan naanak naam guroo tay paa-i-aa — servant Nanak received the Name from the Guru. So this shabad, which opens Raag Todee, gathers up everything Jaitsree taught. Clear seeing, the Name, and the sweetness found through love. It carries them forward into the next raag. The teaching flows on, unbroken, across the line.
