Drawing out the Mighty Sword of the Guru's Spiritual Wisdom, I slaughter and kill the poisonous snakes, and drink in the Sweet Nectar. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The sweet-smelling sandalwood tree is wrapped all around by snakes. How can anyone reach it and take the sandalwood?

I draw out the mighty sword of the Guru's wisdom. Cutting away the poison again and again, I drink in the sweet nectar.

Wisdom is the blade that clears a path to what is sweet and true.
The deeper layer

The Guru's wisdom is a sword that cuts through whatever blocks the way to the sweetness inside.

The chandan, sandalwood, circled by bhu-i-angam, snakes, pictures a precious inner sweetness guarded by dangers. The kharhag, sword, is gur gi-aan, the Guru's wisdom. The poison cut away is bikh, the inner harm of greed and attachment. This is a picture of clearing the path inside, never of hurting any living thing.

A Question to Sit With

What is a hard thing you had to get past to reach something wonderful?
