• Verse 4 (P4): every home dances day and night; meeting the teaching, the spinning stills.

Guru Arjan takes the imagery of dancers and performers — familiar to wandering yogi-entertainers — and expands it until the whole cosmos is one dance. The turn is tender: the Audience is da-i-aalaa, merciful, so being watched is being loved, not judged. And the restless dancing of every heart finds rest only in meeting the teaching.

The raag of performers and ascetics becomes a meditation on the great performance of existence, witnessed by a loving One, quieted at last into stillness.

Translation Notes

• "dance of reincarnation / reduced to dust" (P4): softened to the restless spinning of the heart coming to rest.
