Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who receive the Word in the Sangat walk turned toward the Guru.
Holding the True One in mind, they become true, and they carry the One's riches like supplies packed for a trip.
The devotees look beautiful as they sing praise; following the Guru, they grow steady and unshakable.
They keep the jewel of deep thinking in their minds, and the wonderful Word of the Guru.
The One joins them to the One, and the One gives all greatness.
The Sangat and the Guru's Word pack the supplies we need for life's journey.
The Sat Sangat is the Sangat: people gathered together to remember the One. That is where the Sabad, the Guru's Word, is received. Those who take it in walk as gurmukh, turned toward the Guru.
Jin har kharach dhan palai means "they carry the One's wealth in their robes." Kharach means supplies for a trip. Think of packing a school bag the night before a field trip: water, snacks, a jacket. Remembering the One is like packing what you will need.
The devotees look beautiful as they sing. Following the Guru, they become achal, steady and unshakable. They hold the jewel of deep thinking in the mind. And in the end, the One joins them with the One and gives all greatness. It is a gift of grace.
Who are the people that steady you and help you remember what matters?
