Those who come to You with love and faith are never turned away empty-handed. ||9||

In plain words

Where You are, all-powerful One, there is no one else.

There, in the heat of the mother's womb, You kept us safe.

Hearing Your Naam, death's messengers run away.

The frightening, deep, hard-to-cross ocean of the world is crossed through the Guru's Shabad.

Those who are thirsty for You drink Your sweet nectar.

In this dark age, the one good deed is to sing the praises of the Lord of the world.

The One is kind to all, and cares for us with every breath.

No one who comes to You with love goes away empty-handed.

You were cared for before you could even ask — grace comes first.
The deeper layer

Providence comes before us: we were cared for in the womb, before we could ask — grace comes first. The womb's fire (agnee udar maahi) is an old image for the hard, hot place where the One kept us safe, and death's messengers (jam kay doot) run from the Naam. Singing the One's praises is named the very good of this age, and no one who comes with love is ever turned away empty-handed.

A Question to Sit With

What are some things that were taken care of for you before you were old enough to notice?
