Whoever is proud gets stuck with thorns, and no one can pull them out.
Here they cry bitterly, and after this life they suffer in the darkest hell.
Pride is a thorn that hurts the one who holds it.
Pride (gumaan) is a thorn that pierces the one who carries it, a splinter no one else can pull out for you.
The warning reaches past this life too: narak, hell, is the picture of how deep that pain can go. The way out is the opposite of pride, a humble heart.
A Question to Sit With
Can you remember a time pride made something harder for you than it needed to be?
