Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why, my Brahmin friend, do you not say the Naam of the One?

If you do not say the Naam, O Pandit, you will only suffer in hell.

Learning fills your head; love changes your heart.
The deeper layer

Learning without the Naam leaves a person suffering, however much they know. The word for hell here, dojak, comes from another tradition entirely: heartless learning goes nowhere in any tradition.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line at the centre of the shabad.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever known all the right answers but still not felt something? What was missing?
