In plain words

Gather the five elements and keep them in your heart, and let your deep stillness stay undisturbed.

Kabir says: listen, holy people, make right living and kindness your garden.

The best thing you can grow is a habit of being kind and fair.
The deeper layer

Make right living and kindness your garden: the yogi's whole kit comes down to this.

Panch tat are the five elements that everything is made from: earth, water, fire, air and space. Kabir says to hold them together in your heart, so your deep stillness is not shaken.

Kahat Kabeer sunhu ray santahu means "Kabir says, listen, holy people." Dharam da-i-aa kar baarhee means "make right living and kindness your garden." Dharam means doing what is right. Da-i-aa means kindness. A baarhee is a garden.

Think of a garden you water a little every single day. It does not grow from one big show. It grows from small, steady care. After changing all the yogi's gear into qualities of the heart, this is Kabir's point. The true practice is everyday kindness.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small way you could tend your garden of kindness today?
