Deaf to Praise, Awake to the One

ਪੰਚ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਭਲੋ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਕਹਾਵਉਗੋ ॥

I do not pay attention to anyone praising me, or calling me good and nice.

Says Naam Dayv, my consciousness is imbued with the Lord; I am absorbed in the profound state of Samaadhi. ||4||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I pay no attention when people praise me or call me good and kind.

Naam Dayv says: my mind is dyed deep in the One, the way cloth is coloured clear through, and I rest deep in Samaadhi, a still and quiet absorption in the One.

You do not need the world's praise when your heart is already full.
The deeper layer

Deaf to praise — bhalo bhalo, being called good and nice — the mind rests in sunn samaadh, a deep and still absorption. It is raataa, dyed and coloured all the way through, with the One. Freedom from praise and blame alike is the mark of sahaj, natural ease.

A Question to Sit With

Can you do a good thing without needing anyone to notice?
