Worshipping the Lord, I sing His Glorious Praises. Nanak is Your slave. ||4||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever knows that God made them reaches the One's palace, which has no end.

I worship the One and sing the One's praises. Nanak says: I am Your servant.

Remember you were made, and a home opens up inside you.
The deeper layer

Remember your Maker, and you arrive home.

Jin kee-aa so-ee prabh jaanai — the one who knows that God made them. Knowing this is itself the arrival. Har kaa mahal apaaraa — they reach the Lord's mahal, the palace, which is apaaraa, without any end. That palace is a home that opens up inside you.

Bhagat karee har kay gun gaavaa — I love the One and sing the One's good qualities. Naanak daas tumaaraa — Nanak is Yours. Daas means servant, but here it has a warm feeling. It is like saying, "I am on Your team," with joy, the glad belonging of a child to a family.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most at home in yourself?
