Verse 3 of 5

Inside the Heart, and Outside Too

ਜਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jah bheetar ghat bheetar basi-aa baahar kaahay naahee.
He dwells deep within, inside the heart; how can He not be outside as well?
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
tin kee saar karay nit saahib sadaa chint man maahee. ||2||
Our Lord and Master always takes care of us, and keeps us in His thoughts. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One lives deep inside my own heart, so of course the same One is out here in the world too.

And the whole time, I am being cared for and kept in mind, always.

The One who lives in your heart is the same One out in the world.
The deeper layer

The One who lives in your heart is out in the world too, and always takes care of you.

Jah bheetar ghat bheetar basi-aa baahar kaahay naahee — He lives deep inside the heart, so how could He not be outside too? The question answers itself. The inside One and the outside One are the same One. Think of the air. It is in your lungs, and it fills the whole sky. It is the same air.

Tin kee saar karay nit saahib — the Master always takes care of us. This makes the idea warm. The One is everywhere, and the One is also looking after us, keeping us in mind sadaa, always.

A Question to Sit With

Does it change anything to imagine you are always being cared for?
