You Alone, Only You

ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਏਕ ਤੂਹੀ ॥

aikai aikai too raa-i-aa.
You alone are the king.
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o kirpaa tay sukh paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Your Grace, I have found peace. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You alone, only You, are the One.

You alone, only You, are the King.

By Your grace, I have found peace.

There is only One — and its kindness is already here.
The deeper layer

There is only One, and peace comes as a gift.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line. Aikai aikai ayk toohee — the drumbeat of Oneness, the only reality (Ik Onkar). Peace comes ta-o kirpaa tay — by grace, which is received, not earned.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt a peace that seemed like a gift rather than something you made?
