Meditating in remembrance on the Lord's Name, you shall live, and the Great Death shall not consume you ever again. ||1||Pause||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Remember the Lord of the Universe, the Beloved Keeper of the world.
Remember the Naam, and you will live, and the great death will never swallow you again.
Remember the Naam, and you come alive.
Remember the Naam, and you live; the great death has no hold on you again.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, and it comes first. Jap gobind gopaal laal — hold the Beloved of the world in mind. Raam naam simar too jeeveh — remember the Naam and you will live. Mahaa kaal is the great death, pictured as something that swallows; for one who remembers, it never does again.
