Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Unlucky one, don't you feel ashamed?

The ocean of peace, the perfect Supreme One — and you do not remember the One in your mind.

The ocean of peace is close, inside your own mind, waiting to be remembered.
The deeper layer

The ocean of peace is the perfect One, close enough to remember in your own mind.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It starts with a sharp question: abhaagay tai laaj naahee — you unlucky one, have you no shame? It sounds strong. But it works like a friend saying, "Come on, wake up!" It is meant to lift you, not put you down.

Sukh saagar, the ocean of peace, is not far away. It is man maahee, right there in your own mind. Think of searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head. The peace was never lost. It only needs to be remembered.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel lost, what helps you remember the calm that's still inside you?
