Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Now I know what a treasure it is to be friends with the saints.

In kindness, the One gave me the Naam — the practice of holding the One in mind, the way you keep someone you love in your thoughts.

Something long meant for me has finally come true.

Friendship with the saints is a treasure, and the Naam is a gift you receive, never a prize you win.
The deeper layer

Good friends are a gift. Jaanee sant kee mitraa-ee: now I know the worth of friendship with the saints. Mitraa-ee means friendship. A sant is a good, holy person.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

The Name comes as kirpaa, which means kindness or mercy. It is a gift you receive, never a prize you win. Poorab sanjog means a meeting set up long ago. Something meant for you for a long time finally arrives.

It is like the friend you met on the first day of school who turns out to be a friend for life. You did not earn that. It was a gift.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the friends in your life that help you become your best self?
