You have grown old, and even now, you do not understand, the evil-mindedness in which you are entangled. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You lost your young years to harmful pleasures, and your childhood to not knowing.
Now you have grown old, and even now you do not see the crooked thinking you are tangled in.
*See what tangles your mind now; don't wait until you are old.*
A whole life can slip by: youth spent on bikhian (harmful pleasures), childhood in agi-aanaa (not knowing), and old age still urjhaanaa (tangled). The warning is plain, so that you wake up sooner.
The words are spoken to every person, the way a wise elder speaks to themselves as much as to anyone. The question underneath is gentle: what is tangling your mind right now?
A Question to Sit With
Is there something you keep putting off that you could start today?
