The Priceless Jewel Named Within

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ॥
naam ratan heeraa nirmol.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a priceless jewel, a diamond.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥
saachaa saahib amar atol.
The True Lord Master is immortal and immeasurable.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸੂਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੋਲੁ ॥
jihvaa soochee saachaa bol.
That tongue which chants the True Name is pure.
ਘਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੋਲੁ ॥੨॥
ghar dar saachaa naahee rol. ||2||
The True Lord is in the home of the self; there is no doubt about it. ||2||

In plain words

The Name is a jewel beyond any price, a diamond you could never buy.

The True One never fades and cannot be weighed or measured.

A tongue that speaks the True Name is made clean by it.

And the True One lives right in the home of your own self — of that there is no doubt.

The most precious thing is already at home in you.
The deeper layer

The Name is the most precious thing a person can have, and it lives right inside us.

Naam ratan heeraa nirmol — the Name is a jewel, a diamond beyond any price. Nirmol means priceless: no store could ever sell it. The One behind the Name is amar atol — never dying, and too great to weigh on any scale.

When the tongue speaks the True Name, it becomes clean. Speaking it with love is like speaking with a friend you love: the words carry your whole heart.

And where is this treasure kept? Ghar dar saachaa — the True One lives in the home of your own self. You do not need to travel far to find it. It is like searching the whole house for your glasses while they sit on your head.

A Question to Sit With

What treasure do you already have that you sometimes forget is there?
