Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 94
Verse 8 of 31

Burning Off the Stickiness

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਤਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
maa-i-aa moh sabad jalaa-i-aa gi-aan tat beechaaree. ||7||
The Shabad burns away emotional attachment to Maya, and then one contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Word burns away the tight pull of Maya — the shiny things of the world we cling to.

Then the mind can think deeply about the heart of wisdom.

Letting go of the sticky pull of things clears the mind to see.
The deeper layer

Maa-i-aa moh sabad jalaa-i-aa — the Shabad burns away attachment to maya (the pull of appearances). What remains is giaan tat — the essence of true understanding. Clinging clouds sight; when it burns off, clarity is what is left.

A Question to Sit With

What is easier to understand once you stop wanting something from it?
