In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The One who made the world watches over it — what more is there to say, friends?

It alone knows, and it alone acts; it laid out this whole garden of a world.

The world is a garden the One planted and tends — not a machine left to run — and it watches over what it made.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak starts with calm trust: the One who made the world watches over it.

Jin kee-aa tin daykhi-aa — the One who made it looks after it. Then he calls the world a vaarhee, a garden, that the One laid out. A garden is planted and tended. It isn't a machine left to run by itself.

Ki-aa kahee-ai ray bhaa-ee — what more can we say, friends? Think of a child falling asleep in the back seat on a long drive. The child doesn't need to know every turn. A parent is driving.

That is the quiet here. The heart stops needing to explain everything. It rests in the One's knowing and doing.

A Question to Sit With

Does it steady you to picture the world as a tended garden rather than a machine running on its own?
