Tilang, Ninth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਗਾਇ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਸੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੋ ॥
har jas ray manaa gaa-ay lai jo sangee hai tayro.
Sing the Lord's Praises, O mind; He is your only true companion.
ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬੀਤਿਓ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਿਓ ਮਾਨ ਲੈ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
a-osar beeti-o jaat hai kahi-o maan lai mayro. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Your time is passing away; listen carefully to what I say. ||1||Pause||

Sing the One's praises, mind — it is your only true companion.
Your time is running out; listen closely to what I'm telling you.
Of all companions, only one stays the whole way — so keep company, above all, with the One that doesn't fall away.
The Ninth Master's third shabad names the One "your only true companion" — the one that stays when all others fall away. The urgency ("your time is passing") is wrapped in care ("listen carefully to what I say"), the tone of an elder who loves you and doesn't want you to miss the one thing. Of all companions, only one accompanies you the whole way; sing to that one.
