In plain words

I give myself to You, dear kind One — I am a sacrifice to You.

I am a sacrifice to those who take up Your Name — forever a sacrifice to them.

Before you can be changed, the heart is given away in love — to the One, and to everyone who loves it.
The deeper layer

This is the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It is pure love that can't stop saying so.

The word kurbaanai comes again and again. It means "I give myself to you." It is like saying "I love you" three times, because once isn't enough.

And Nanak gives himself to two at once. He gives himself to the One. He also gives himself to those who love the One: lain jo tayraa naa-o — those who take up Your Name. Think of loving your grandmother so much that you love her friends too, because they love her.

Before the shabad explains how the cloth gets a new color, it shows the heart that is ready. It is a heart already given away in love.

A Question to Sit With

What or whom have you loved enough to feel you'd give anything for them?
