After all the searching, I finally understood what's actually real — the one who belongs to the One is devoted to it completely.
If you want a joy that lasts, Nanak says, keep the One in mind, always.
This one says that after all the searching, the answer is simple: keep the One in mind.
Khojat khojat — searching and searching. The searching ends in tat beechaari-o, understanding the tat, the real core of things. Daas govind paraa-in — the servant of the One is given over to the One completely.
Then Guru Arjan gives plain, warm advice. If what you want is joy that lasts, not the flickering kind, sadaa simar — always remember. It's like hunting all over the house for your glasses and finding them on your head. The answer was close the whole time.
It's a fitting close. All the seeking lands on something simple enough for a child to hold. Keep the One in mind, and joy stops leaking away.
Why do you think the deepest answers often turn out to be the simplest ones?
