ਕਰਣੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੁ ਨਾ ਕੀਓ ਪਰਿਓ ਲੋਭ ਕੈ ਫੰਧ ॥

You have not done what you should have done; you are entangled in the web of greed.

naanak sami-o ram ga-i-o ab ki-o rovat anDh. ||36||
Nanak, your time is past and gone; why are you crying now, you blind fool? ||36||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You did not do what you came to do. You got caught in the net of greed.
Nanak says: your time has passed and gone. Why cry now, when you kept your eyes shut?
Do what matters while there is time; tears later cannot buy it back.
Time spent caught in greed does not come back, so the time to remember is now.
Karno huto so naa kee-o: what had to be done was not done. Pari-o lobh kai fanDh: caught in the net of lobh, greed.
Sami-o ram ga-i-o: the time has slipped away. Ab ki-o rovat anDh: why weep now, blind one? The words are sharp, like a friend shaking you awake while there is still time.
A Question to Sit With
Is there something good you keep putting off? What could you do about it today?
