By What Sensual Pleasures Has the Beautiful Soul-Bride Been Doomed?
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The beautiful soul-bride — by what sensual pleasures has she been doomed?
She is of no use to her Husband if she babbles in useless arguments.
At the Door of His Home, she finds no shelter. She is discarded for seeking other pleasures.
This one says that love matters more than winning arguments.
Pir kee naar suhaavanee mutee so kit saad: "the lovely bride — by what pleasures has she been fooled?" She was beautiful, but she chased other sweet things and lost her way.
Bolay faadil baad: she "talks in useless arguments." She argues and debates, but she forgets to love. Clever words cannot take the place of a loving heart. When she comes to the beloved's door, she finds no shelter there.
Think of a family dinner where one person only argues to win. They may win the point but lose the warm feeling at the table. The pleasures that looked so comforting are the very things that kept the bride away. What she needed was simple love.
Is there any place where you analyze or argue about the spiritual life rather than actually living it? What would it look like to put down the argument and just practice?
