In every place — You are the One. Keep me as You please, Lord.
Through the Guru's teaching, the True One settles into the mind. The Name brings the finest honor.
Eradicate the disease of ego. Speak the True Shabad — the Word of the True Lord.
Sarbay thaa-ee ayk toon, ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh — in all places, You are the One; as it pleases You, please save me. After the cosmological narrowness of Pauri 7 — desire, bondage, blows — the widening: the divine is everywhere, in everything, already present. And the prayer: as You please, protect me. Not demanding a specific outcome — surrendering direction. Keep me as You see fit. This is the interior practice that the composition has been building toward.
Gurmat saachaa man vasai, naam bhalo pat saakh — through the Guru's Teachings, the True One abides within the mind; the Name brings the most excellent honor (saakh — witness, companionship, endorsement). The Name as companion: wherever you are, the Name is your witness and your honor. Not external recognition — the Name itself is the endorsement. The inner dwelling of the True One is the source of all genuine honor.
Haumai rog gavaa-ee-ai, sabad sachai sach bhaakh — eradicate the disease of ego; chant the True Shabad, speak the Truth. Haumai as rog (disease, illness) — one of the most consistent metaphors in these ashtapadees. The cure is the True Shabad. But note sach bhaakh — speak the Truth. Not just chanting as ritual repetition, but actually speaking truth: in your words, your actions, your life. Living in alignment with the Shabad is the eradication of the disease.
What would it change about your day if you genuinely felt that the One was present in every place and every situation you encountered?
