Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Lord's Name is the pure wealth. It is given only by the Giver.
One who has the Guru, the Creator, as a Friend shall not be questioned hereafter.
He Himself delivers those who are delivered. He Himself is the Forgiver.
This one says the Name is a gift, and the Guru is the best friend you can have.
Raam naam Dhan nirmalo jay dayvai dayvanhaar: "the Lord's Name is the pure wealth, if the Giver gives it." We cannot pile it up by effort or buy it in a shop. It is a gift, and the One is the Giver. The gift is the Name itself.
Aagai poochh na hova-ee jis baylee gur kartaar: the one whose friend is the Guru, the Creator, "will not be questioned later." A baylee is a close friend. If the Creator is your friend, what is left to worry about? Every other question of who you owe and whom you must please falls away.
Think of walking into a new school with the head teacher as your friend. You do not need to prove yourself to everyone.
Then: aap chhadaa-ay chhutee-ai aapay bakhsanhaar: "He Himself sets free, and He Himself forgives." The One is not a judge with a list of scores. The One is where freedom comes from, the one who sets us free, and the one who forgives. We do not have to work out a hard system. We only need to receive what the One is already offering.
What would it mean to have the Creator as your closest Friend — and how would your decisions change?
